Frequently Asked Questions

Do You Accept Insurance?

No. I do not participate in insurance panels, however most patients find that their health insurance company will cover some of my fees as an out-of-network provider. How much is covered depends on your particular policy and includes factors like deductibles and co-pays. I am happy to furnish you with the required documentation to facilitate this process. Please contact your insurance directly to learn more about out-of-network coverage.

Are You A California Victim Compensation Provider?

Yes. I am an approved provider for the California Victim Compensation Program (CalVCP). If you or a loved one has been a victim of a violent crime, you may be eligible to have some of your therapy treatment paid through CalVCP. Please contact my office for more information.

Is Therapy Confidential?

Information that you share with me will be handled according to The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). It is your legal right and my responsibility to make certain our sessions are kept confidential; although, there are some exceptions:

  1. If I believe a child, an elderly person, or a dependent adult is being abused or neglected, I am legally required to file a report with the appropriate state agency.
  2. If a patient threatens to harm themselves, I may be required to seek additional support for the patient, or to contact family members or others who can provide protection.
  3. If I believe a patient is threatening serious bodily harm to another, I am required to take appropriate steps, which may include notifying the potential victim, notifying the police, or seeking appropriate support for the patient to ensure safety.

I will discuss confidentiality in greater detail and answer any questions you may have during our initial in-person session.

What Are Your Fees?

Therapy fees are $175.00 for a 50 minute session.

Clinical Supervision fees vary from group to individual sessions. Please contact my office to discuss your needs.

Clinical Evaluation fees vary depending on the type of assessment, report and the complexity of the evaluation. Please contact my office to discuss your needs.

How Do I Pay For Therapy?

Payments can be made with cash or check. I also accept payments via Health Savings Account (HSA) and Flex Spending Accounts (FSA) if your card has a credit card logo such as Visa or Mastercard. All major credit cards are now accepted. Payments are due at the time of service unless other arrangements have been made in advance (e.g. CalVCP).

What Are Your Office Hours?

Office hours are by appointment only. I offer flexible evening and Saturday appointments.

What Can I Expect At Our Initial In-Person Session?

At our initial in-person session we will discuss the required intake paperwork and confidentiality. Subsequently, we can talk about what’s most pressing for you. I usually like to learn about any challenges you’re experiencing, how you’ve been coping so far, and any future goals you may have. It is helpful to view the first 1-3 sessions as part of an initial consultation, during which we will determine whether further work together would be beneficial. This is an opportunity for me to gather information and clarify the presenting concerns, and also a chance for you to ask any questions regarding my professional background, training, and credentials.
